What is IPR?

IPR is a dental procedure that removes a small amount of tooth enamel from the sides of the teeth. This procedure is often used in conjunction with orthodontic treatment to create more space in the mouth and make it easier for the teeth to move into their proper position.

Is IPR painful?

IPR is generally a painless procedure. At UKaligners, we use advanced technology and techniques to ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible. Most patients do not experience any discomfort during or after the procedure, and any minor discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

What are benefits of IPR?

IPR has several benefits, including:

→ Creating more space in the mouth: One of the main benefits of IPR is that it creates more space in the mouth, making it easier for the teeth to move into their proper position. This can make orthodontic treatment more effective and reduce the overall treatment time.

→ Improving the smile's appearance: IPR can also improve the smile's appearance. By creating more space in the mouth, IPR can help to create a straighter, more symmetrical smile, which can boost self-confidence and improve the overall appearance.

→ Reducing the risk of tooth damage: IPR can also help to reduce the risk of tooth damage. By removing a small amount of tooth enamel, IPR can prevent the teeth from rubbing together and causing damage, resulting in tooth decay, gum disease, and other problems.

How is IPR made?

At UKALIGNERS, we use advanced 3D imaging and computer-aided design (CAD) technology to design and create our IPR appliances. This allows us to create custom IPR appliances tailored to each patient's unique needs and goals, ensuring a comfortable, effective fit.

The first step to creating an IPR appliance is to take a digital impression of the teeth using a 3D scanner. This impression is then used to create a detailed 3D model of the teeth, allowing our orthodontists to design a custom appliance to create the desired amount of space in the mouth.

Once the design is finalized, the IPR appliance is sent to our state-of-the-art laboratory, where it is fabricated using high-quality, medical-grade materials. The appliance is then carefully checked and adjusted to ensure that it fits properly and is comfortable to wear.

When is an IPR recommended for a patient?

IPR is typically recommended for patients with crowded or misaligned teeth undergoing orthodontic treatment. By creating more space in the mouth, IPR can make orthodontic treatment more effective and reduce the overall treatment time.

However, IPR is not suitable for all patients, and the decision to use IPR will depend on the specific needs and goals of each patient. Your orthodontist will be able to evaluate your teeth and jaws and recommend the best course of treatment for you.

How long to wear the aligners?

The length of time that aligners need to be worn can vary depending on each patient's specific needs and goals. In general, aligners need to be worn for at least 20-22 hours per day for the treatment to be effective.

At what age should I have orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment can be beneficial for patients of all ages. However, it's generally recommended that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven, as this is the age at which many orthodontic problems become apparent.

Can aligners be placed on one jaw?

In some cases, aligners may be used to treat misalignment in just one jaw. However, this is not always possible, and the decision to use aligners on one jaw will depend on each patient's specific needs and goals.

If your aligner is broken, it's important to contact us right away. We will be able to advise you on the best course of action, which may include replacing the aligner or adjusting your treatment plan.

Will I need to have my teeth taken out to make room?

In some cases, orthodontic treatment may require the removal of one or more teeth to make room for the teeth to move into their proper position. However, this is not always necessary, and the decision to extract teeth will depend on each patient's specific needs and goals.
